Dreamy editorial photo session in the Viana desert on Boa Vista, Cape Verde, shot earlier this year.
This was actually my first and only time in Africa so far. I honestly can’t wait to see more of what this beautiful continent has to offer. Admittedly we were visiting a very touristy island. It was my sisters treat for both of us and we quite enjoyed ourselves even though that all-inclusive-stuck-at-a-resort-surrounded-by-nothing-kinda-thing is really not my jam at all. I prefer hanging out with locals, getting lost and discovering hidden gems along the way. We have Jó, a local, to thank for this beautiful day.
There’s something about the desert that I love.
The feel of it. The beautiful neutral colours and the earthy tones. Mountains of sand as far as the eye can reach and the random bush here and there. We were running up and down the dunes getting sand everywhere. The waves of motion caused by the wind looks like a hypnotizing dance and feels very much like watching waves in the ocean and the advancing movement of a snake at the same time. Grains of sand only slightly levitating above the not so solid ground.
I’ve only ever been in the desert once before and that was close to Dubai in 2011 when my then boyfriend, now fiancé, got invited to the Dubai Film Festival and decided to invite me along for the ride. It was like stepping in to a dream. I’ve never touched sand so soft in my life.
This experience has been quite different though and I’m happy to already have fulfilled my travel goal for 2017 (visit one new country each year). Now I can add Cape Verde, or Cabo Verde as they say in Portuguese, to the list of countries I’ve visited. Can’t wait to see more!
A big thank you to Sabrina and Jó who made this happen.
Let’s do it again sometime:) But next time we’ll skip the resort and live, eat and party with the locals instead;)
